Graeser Park Preservation Project Nears Completion

A major restoration project of Robbinsdale’s historic Graeser Park is nearly complete.

“It’s thrilling. It’s beyond imagination,” said Kristi Gibson of the Graeser Park Restoration and Preservation Committee. “Our little group that formed in 2019, we never imagined it could come this far.”

Gibson is part of a group of enthusiastic volunteers who have set out to preserve Robbinsdale’s Graeser Park.

Construction crews hired by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which owns the park, are putting the finishing touches on the project.

Some of the features include 11 picnic tables and newly-built sidewalks that allow for easier access. A new, accessible picnic table was recently installed, with a view of the rock garden area.

An EAI worker smooths dirt next to the new sidewalk. At left is the new accessible table, with a view of the rock garden below.

The beehive fireplace, now fully restored, was originally built in 1941 and is one of only two in existence, according to Gibson.

“It’s so special to walk into and see something from the past that we can connect to, and we can still enjoy today,” Gibson said.

All of the work should be finished by the end of June.
