Robbinsdale’s First Bank

In 1906 the Robbinsdale State Bank was formed by John G. Lund. In 1909 I. F. Cotton, a well known banker, together with W. A. Farr, gained control. Mr. Farr was manager and cashier. By 1914 the business had grown and larger quarters might be needed. Much credit for its success was given to Mr. Farr for his untiring boosting of the community. This building was started April 25, 1906, made of concrete blocks. Had but one employee for many years. The bank was closed on August 23, 1918 and the next day Mr. Farr was arrested and later served in Stillwater for misuse of bank funds.

-This material was gathered from the North Hennepin Post and the diaries of Ellen M. Bisbee, (sister of J. P. Shumway and Nathan F. Russ J. P. Shumway). It was compiled and edited by Evelyn and Esther Shumway for a Robbinsdale Historiocal Society slide show in 1980.
