The High School is Here!

The construction of Robbinsdale High School began in March 1936. The school board that guided the project to completion included Henry Hartig, Edith Robbins Daniel, A.E. Prince, F.P. Hosterman, William Cavanagh and R.C. Rawson. The superintendent was E.J. Cooper. The board is pictured here looking on as Hartig installs a time capsule into the wall of the new school.

Robbinsdale High School was completed in time for 1600 students to walk through the front doors on September 14th, 1936. The building was dedicated with impressive ceremonies on May 19th, 1937. The first principal, Milo Mielke remained in the position until his retirement in 1968.

Robbinsdale High School was built with $124,000 from local tax payers and $135,000 provided by the federal government’s Public Works Administration. The building is remembered as one of the best investments Robbinsdale ever made.

This is the 13th in a series of posts featuring Dorthy Hartig’s History of Robbinsdale. This informal account was written for the Robbinsdale Library Club in 1948. A copy was placed Lee’s School’s cornerstone time capsule the following year. The Robbinsdale High School on Regent Avenue North is pictured at the top of the post.
