Support the Robbinsdale Civic Choir!

Gentlemen:

Choir, which is supported by the Robbinsdale City Government was organized in October, 1956, as a volunteer organization to give the adults of the North Hennepin Area an opportunity to sing for enjoyment. From a comparatively small group, if has grown to an 85-voice choir. This group, under the direction of John Adams, has sung innumerable times for civic, social and business gatherings in this Metropolitan area. After singing before Governor Freeman, the group was honored by his naming them his Centennial Choir.

Last spring the choir entered the Minneapolis Aquatennial Mixed Chorus Contest, and won first place. As winner of this contest the Choir was entitled to enter into national competition in the Chicagoland Music Festival. There, they also received the first-place award. The Robbinsdale Civic Choir has the distinction of being the first Civic Choir to win the national competition in the Mixed Chorus division of this Festival.

Each year there is an international music contest held in Wales called the Llangollen International Music Eistenddford. The Choir received an invitation to compete in this festival on July 5-12, 1959, and has accepted it. The group will be representing the state of Minnesota and the Nation in this endeavor.

Bids have been received for transportation, room and board for this trip and they find that about $40,000.00 will be necessary to pay all expenses. $15,000.00 of the amount has been contributed by the members of the Choir, and the balance of $25,000.00 will be raised through contributions from various businesses, individuals and service clubs.

In view of the fact that all performances of the group are gratis, the raising of the money for this trip needs your help. Your contributions may be sent to: The Robbmscfale Civic Choir. Robbinsdale City Hall, Robblnsdale, Minnesota.

Your sincere consideration of this appeal will be very much appreciated.
