Join us for the Opening Night of the Terrace Legacy Project on Thursday, August 8th from 5:30-8:00. Relighting ceremony at 7:00! an art and artifact exhibit honoring the Historic Terrace Theatre, which provided entertainment to the citizens of Robbinsdale and beyond for nearly 50 years. The exhibit runs at the Robbins Gallery through the month of August.
This exhibit will showcase the entire history of the Terrace: from early concepts and construction, through its 48 years of service, and ending with the fight for preservation and eventual demolition.
Highlights of the exhibit will include some restored letters from the Terrace’s tower, a lobby chandelier saved from the lobby before demolition, a “heart bombing” section for people to leave their memories of the theater, rare photos, memorabilia and much, much more!
Any donations made to the exhibit will be put towards the continued restoration of the tower letters with an eventual goal of a public display in Robbinsdale.
Did you know that there were almost 670 bulbs in just one set of Terrace Tower letters? Unfortunately, the tower letters were damaged when they were removed from the Terrace. We have received a restoration bid which will include reshaping and rewiring the letters, as well as purchasing replacement bulbs. We are on our way to a set of fully restored letters to honor the Terrace and its rightful place in the history of Robbinsdale.
We need your help!
For just $10.00, you can sponsor one of the bulbs that we will use to relight the Terrace Tower letters. Of course, you are more than welcome to sponsor more than one bulb!
In the Fall of 2016, the Historic Terrace Theatre, which had served the citizens of Robbinsdale, MN from 1951 through 1999, was torn down to make way for a large grocery store. Prior to its demolition, several key artifacts were removed. America’s Classic Cinemas and the Robbinsdale Historical Society have spent nearly three years working together to restore these artifacts, and collect others, for this thrilling art and artifact exhibit.
