As has often been said by our board members and visitors, we know our museum has a great collection; we just wish we knew exactly what we have!
Now, the board is pleased to announce that Robbinsdale Historical Society has received a grant through the Minnesota Historical Society…a big step toward making our wish come true.
As has often been said by our board members and visitors, we know our museum has a great collection; we just wish we knew exactly what we have!
Now, the board is pleased to announce that Robbinsdale Historical Society has received a grant through the Minnesota Historical Society…a big step toward making our wish come true.
The $9,275.00 grant, made possible by the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, will enable Phase 2 of a multi-year plan to make our collection more relevant, organized, and accessible.
Phase 1 was completed earlier this year, as our consultant, Crystal Boyd, worked with us to establish our Collections Management Policy and Procedures. She also inventoried a small sample of objects to determine how long it would take to do a complete inventory.
A visit to this magic kingdom of Robbinsdale history reveals that our collection includes:
▪ Many three dimensional objects
▪ Numerous file drawers filled with photos and clippings
▪ Shelves full of paper materials (documents, books, newspapers, maps, scrapbooks, and more)
In Phase 2, our consultant will begin working with a “collections management system” known as Collective Access. Developed right here in Minnesota, it is used by many local history groups throughout the state.
These records will help us keep track of our growing collection and eventually share access with other museums and the general public.
On behalf of the Minnesota Historical Society, Brenda Raney, Senior Director of Preservation and Outreach, stated,
“The Society is honored to support your efforts to preserve our state’s heritage.”
In turn, we are honored to receive this grant, and we look forward to getting to work in 2023!

Typo?
“As has often been said by our board members and visitors, we know our museum has a great collection; we just wish we knew exactly that we have!”
(Should say, what we have.)
Fixed. Thank you, Jim, for being such a careful reader!
