Mr. John Trump and family came from Iowa to Robbinsdale in 1890. He broke ground for a new store in April of 1890. He operated a general merchandise store on West Broadway where Twin City Federal is today. He enlarged his building opening a hardware in half of it. In 1896 he bought a feed mill that Mr. Cannon had built the year before by the railroad tracks and moved it in back of his store. He paid $850 for it, operated it for many years. He was probably most widely known for the boats he owned and the boat landing on Twin Lake. You got your oars, fishing poles and bait at the store. He was Village Treasurer for 15 years. Served on the fire department. Mrs. Trump was a charter member of the Library Club and the first president of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society. There were four daughters and one son. Mr. Trump died in 1927, the store was taken over by his son, Jack and daughter, Bertha. In 1931. it was purchased by Jules Scott. A daughter, Effie Trump Kempshall, moved to Illinois. The Trump name was an Institution for nearly 60 years.
